Is SOPA the End of the Internet as We Know It?

While the EndOfTheInternet.com highlights the light-hearted side of the Internet, the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) bill currently before the U.S. House Judiciary Committee could take away many of the freedoms we've grown accustomed to on the Internet.

It's a tag-team wrestling match with the entertainment industry and supporting politicians in one corner, and Silicon Valley and opposing politicians in the other.

Much of the news around SOPA to date has been sensational - with characterizations in terms of good versus evil, it is difficult to determine how biased a given perspective may be.

The folks behind EndOfTheInternet.com happen to fall squarely in a demilitarized zone; in our "day jobs" we work closely with both the entertainment industry and Silicon Valley. We hold no grudge against either, and find that both sides have very valid concerns.

Yet, we believe the SOPA bill is fundamentally flawed. At the core it is beyond amends, refactor, and even rewrite. It must be reconceived with limited scope as a guiding principle. Further, we believe that the ongoing promotion of the bill only hurts both sides' interests - the entertainment industry's rally behind such an extreme bill only further tarnishes their credibility.

We invite all of our visitors to draw their own conclusions.
